Keith Gentry is in his 21st season as Southwest's head softball coach, compiling 439 wins in his career. Gentry has coached 18 players who were selected first or second team All-Tennessee Community College Athletic Association (TCCAA), 94 Academic All-TCCAA recipients, 33 who earned National Junior College Athletic Association Academic All-American, and 37 who received National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-American honors. Gentry is also Sports Information Director, and was the official statistician for the TCCAA for eight years.

Gentry managed the Memphis Royals semi-pro baseball team for 30 years, compiling a record of 1051-369. In 2012, the Royals won the Germantown Adult Baseball League regular season and tournament in his final season. Over the years, Gentry guided the Royals to two United States Baseball Congress World Series (USBC) championships (1999 and 2009), five American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) state championships, two AABC regional runners-up, one National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) regional championship, and two NABF regional runners-up. In 1999, Gentry managed the Royals to a 67-1 record in 1999, winning their first 55 games en route to capturing the USBC World Series and the Universal Baseball Global Championships. In 2000, Gentry was honored as the AABC Southeast Region Coach of the Year and in 2002 he was inducted in the National Semi Pro Baseball Hall of Fame.

A graduate of Oakhaven Baptist Academy in Memphis, Gentry lettered in basketball and baseball, and was the statistician for entire sports program. As a senior, he was received awards for Best Pitcher and Most Valuable Player of the baseball team. Gentry was a pitcher on Term City's American Legion state championship baseball team, then later played for the Memphis Royals semipro team, compiling 50 wins and over 500 strikeouts in his career.

Gentry attended Shelby State Community College his freshman year before transferring to The University of Memphis, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations. He was a member of the U of M football and basketball statistics crew for 36 years, and was on the Memphis Grizzlies stat crew for eight years. Owner of Gentry's Statistical Service (for high school football and basketball), Gentry received the A.F. Bridges Award for Contributor of the Year from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association in 1999.
