Title: Assistant Softball Coach
A Memphis native, David graduated from Overton High School in 1983. A former Saluqi student-athlete, David was on the golf team at Shelby State Community College from 1983-84 and then at Memphis State University from 1984-86.
David coached the Express (travel ball) softball team for five years and helped guide them to a Top 50 ranking in the country in three of those years. He went on to coach at Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee for six seasons (2016-2022), where he was the Lady Lions' defensive coach. While at FHU, David coached seven All-Americans and helped lead the Lady Lions to two NAIA World Series appearances and top five defenses in three of the seasons.
David and his wife Gina have one daughter, Kohnley Wade Sumner, who was a three-year starter at Freed Hardeman. A retired Jackson (TN) Fire Department Captain, David has also been a professional musician for 20 years.
David has a passion for coaching, loves the game of softball, and will be a great addition to the Lady Saluqis' coaching staff!
